Tahoe broke its snowfall record for the month of December, surpassing the previous December record snowfall of 179″ in 1970. In December 2021, we received 212″ of snowfall, making it the third snowiest month on record. January 2017 holds the record with 238 inches of snowfall, followed by February 2019, which saw 221 inches of snow. And, according to our friends at Open Snow, Tahoe has already received 71% of its average snowfall!

Welcome to the 2021/2022 Lake Tahoe ski season! We know things were a little different last winter during the pandemic, so we have summarized what you can expect this year.

While ski resort opening dates are always subject to weather and conditions, it sure does give us something to look forward to. As the nights get chillier and the fall season takes hold, we start to envision our ski season ahead. So get your skis waxed and your gear ready, because the ski season is around the corner and powder days are ahead!

A temporary closure of all National Forests in California went into effect Aug. 31 and will run through Friday, Sept. 17. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any trails to enjoy. Below is a list of where you can enjoy biking, hiking, and walking outside on trails unaffected by closures. Keep in mind, fire danger is extreme. Always behave responsibly and absolutely no sparks!
