Carnelian Bay

The heart of the North Shore, Carnelian Bay is a low-key mix of classic lakefront estates, mid-century cabins, and modern mountain homes. It’s named for the little semi-precious stones once scattered along its shoreline. Locals paddle out from Waterman’s Landing or spend the afternoon at Patton Beach, where dogs are welcome, then wind down with a sunset cocktail at Gar Woods. The Sierra Boat Company Marina anchors the boating life out of Carnelian Bay. For winter fun, turn to the east to Northstar California Resort, or to the west to Palisades Tahoe, both about 10 miles away. The center of town is full of classic Tahoe charm, with favorites like Magic Carpet Mini Golf, Waterman’s Coffee Shop, CB’s Bistro, and Old Post Office Cafe. Kings Beach close by for additional grocery stores, shops, and restaurants, Carnelian Bay is proof you don’t have to choose between convenience and that classic Tahoe feel.
