Description

This custom designed, luxury log home offers Scandinavian charm and all the modern amenities needed for the perfect Tahoe vacation during any season. Located in the exclusive Tahoe Donner neighborhood, The Swede Life rests on a quiet half acre of flat, stream-fed, wooded forest that is perfect for families with older members or those with young children. This home provides immediate access to the scenic Nature Loop Trail and backs up to a preserved wetland area. A private natural spring bubbles up into a small pool before babbling into nearby Trout Creek. The scenic stream sprouts flowers, attracts wildlife, and offers a beautiful natural environment for kid play. The Swede Life was designed with both entertaining and children in mind. The 4,000+ square feet of living space is spread over the main floor and an upper floor, whose separate sleeping areas are connected by a dramatic elevated catwalk overlooking the great room. Five bedrooms and three full baths are located on the upper level in three distinct wings. The south wing of the upper level holds a master bedroom with its own gas fireplace and another room immediately adjacent. In the north wing, there is a second master with a neighboring bunked bedroom, both of which open into a common bonus room alcove designed to entertain kids in a separate living space during early mornings or after hours when adults might gather downstairs. The upper level also has a bedroom on the west wing with its own deck and bathroom, 50'' flat screen television and a delightful reading loft outside its door. On the main level is a final bedroom with its own bathroom—great for those who may have trouble getting up or down stairs. Older guests will appreciate that the front entrance, garage and entire main floor can be accessed with no more than one step up or down. With nine separate zones of in-floor, radiant heat throughout the house, you should be able to find and maintain the perfect temperature without the noise, dryness and constant disruption that come from forced air heating. Enormous vaulted ceiling in the great room with 30’+ tall, east-facing windows capture gorgeous sunrises will everyone can lounge on the large leather sofa with wood burning stove, 60'' television with Netflix, DVD, and Sonos. The quiet and welcoming family room sits on main floor opposite the great room and offers its own wood-burning fireplace, leather sofa and reclining lounge chair and a sun-drenched card table ideal for games or drawing.

To ensure your safety, it is critical that during November 1st - April 30th brakes, windshield wipers, defroster, heater and exhaust system are in top condition. Tires need to be properly inflated and the tread must be in excellent condition. Always carry tire chains, even if driving an AWD/4WD vehicle. Make sure the chains are the proper size for your tires and are in working order.     • Tahoe Donner homes have access to numerous amenities which are detailed in the video below. Daily Access Fee is $15. Up to four guests may gain access on a single transferable guest card. Two (2) cards are provided at the home for a total of eight (8) guests who may obtain access.

Payment Terms

  • Minimum Night Requirements vary by property, season and arrival date. Online booking is available when your length of stay meets the minimum night requirements. If you would like a shorter stay than required online, please call or email our office, and we will be happy to accommodate your request whenever possible.
  • Payment Terms: Upon confirmation of the Vacation Rental Agreement, 25% of the base rent (and pet fee, if applicable), as well the full amount of travel insurance (if selected), is due. The balance of the base rent, cleaning fee, and TOT are due 90 days prior to arrival. If the Agreement is entered into less than 90 days prior to arrival, the total amount is due in full with the signed Agreement. Please inquire and/or review the Vacation Rental Agreement for additional information.  
  • Cancellation Policy: A cancellation must be in writing and received 90 days prior to the arrival date. Travel insurance is offered for purchase to alleviate any potential hardship. Please inquire and/or review the Vacation Rental Agreement for additional information and fees. 
  • Travel Insurance is offered through CSA/Generali Global Assistance. Insurance covers the cost of a cancellation or trip interruption due to unforeseen conditions such as illness or road closures. Coverage may be provided in certain circumstances for baggage delay, theft, medical & dental expenses, or emergency assistance. Please inquire for greater details and/or limitations.

Amazing home + location! From the heated floors to comfy couches to the backyard leading to a creek.... this place was amazing. The common areas are large, bedrooms + bathrooms everywhere! And since we had lots of snow you can sled in the front yard (kid friendly!). We will definitely be coming back!!!

This house is absolutely beautiful and MUCH nicer than we expected and the amenities were really thoughtful. the kitchen was beautiful and well stocked. there were snow sleds in the garage. the beds were really comfortable. overall this was by far the nicest Tahoe cabin we've ever stayed. 100% would recommend and we'll for sure be returning.

Man this place was really nice. Really great wood furnishings everywhere fit perfectly with the mountains. The place was so clean we were worried we would walk into a glass door! Would definitely recommend it!

The house is really well done and handled our 12 people with plenty of room. The setting and lot is great with access to the creek and the walking path on the back of the lot. Was a bit disappointed with only having 2 guest passes which only allowed 8 people access to the facility. Overall it was a very good experience and I would recommend it to anybody that needs a place with plenty of room.

My family had a wonderful stay. The house is fantastic and has everything you need no matter he season. We love to cook and grill and they had everything we could ever need. They also had some pleasant surprises for a family with little ones that was so helpful. Would stay again in a heartbeat :)
Wonderful Company Retreat

Our small company had an amazing 3 day weekend here for our annual ski trip. We were able to sleep and entertain 16 comfortably with minimal effort. The hot tub, heated floors, and heated driveway were an extra nice touch on an already impressive and comfortable home. During our 3 day stay it snowed over 2.5ft, if it wasn't for the heated driveway and great neighborhood plow service we never would have made it to the mountain. I cannot stress enough the value of this heated driveway in the winter. I would recommend this spot for any large group of individuals or families looking to experience Tahoe during any season.
Best Ski Trip

The home was a real treasure! I organized a family reunion ski trip for MLK weekend. Everyone came away feeling that it was one of the best vacations we've ever had. Tahoe experienced the biggest snowstorm in its history. Roads were buried and the area lost power. We arrived on the last day of the storm and faced scary road conditions. Snow plowers couldn't keep up with the amount of snowfall. Some of us were driving in from San Francisco and others arrived at Reno airport. Three of our vehicles got stuck in the snow on the way to house even with tire chains. Luckily power was restored at the house. When we arrived the boiler was running and even the hot tub was back to its normal temperature. Getting in from the storm and walking into a warm home with heated floors felt like we've been saved. What we loved about the home: - It was really clean and the listing had accurate descriptions and photos. - Heated floors throughout the ground floor. - Spacious floor plan. Everyone had his/her space with the 6 bedrooms. There were no grumblings about waiting for an open bathroom. - High end kitchen appliances and plenty of dinnerware and glassware for our large group. - Wine fridge - Hot tub - Heated driveway - Snow plowers came to shovel snow from the front entry and decks. - Family friendly. There were plenty of toys, books for small children. - Natural decor, even the artwork was lovely. Lots of hooks for snow clothes and a glove stand. - Close to Sugarbowl, Squaw and Alpine Meadows. - Both skiers and non-skiers in the family loved it. It's a luxury lodge that manages to be family friendly. I would highly recommend it.
