Reduce, reuse, recycle.... go green... eco-friendly... however you want to say it, environmental awareness has become part of our daily lives!

Help celebrate the movement that helped launch eco-awareness during Tahoe Truckee's Earth Day Festival. Started on April 22nd, 1970 with the intention of demonstrating on "behalf of a healthy, sustainable environment" according to the Earth Day Network, Earth Day has become an annual international event to help remind us all of the importance of being conscious of our impact on the environment. Starting on April 20th, there will be a series of events and concerts in the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area, culminating in the Earth Day Festival at Squaw Valley on April 24th.

Patagonia Wild & Scenic Festival - On April 20th, Sierra Nevada College will host the first screening of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival at 7pm. The screening will feature a selection of films ranging in length from 2 to 40 minutes that cover a variety of environmental topics, including water issues, conservation, climate change, and outdoor adventures like rock climbing and kayaking. The second screening will be at the Resort at Squaw Creek on April 23 at 7pm. Tickets are $10 and can be bought in advance at New Moon.

Squaw Valley Institute Earth Day Speaker - Doug Helmuth will present "Satellite's Potential to Monitor Climate Change" at 6pm on April 21st at the Resort at Squaw Creek. Tickets are $10 and free for students.

Kids for Conservation Festival - Incline Village will host this kid-friendly Earth Day event at the DWR Community Center from 3-9pm. Admission is free and there will be a variety of earth-friendly educational activities.

Slow Food Lake Tahoe Potluck - Bistro 22 in Squaw Valley will host this event that highlights regionally produced foods and the opportunity to get to know your neighbors.

Earth Day Festival - The main Earth Day event will take place on April 24th at the Village at Squaw Valley from 11am-5pm. Admission is free, and the festival will feature a kids' activities, educational booths, and a ton of live performances, including Drop Theory, Dusty Rhodes and the River Band, and the Asha World Dancers. Admission is free, and this Earth Day event is a Zero Waste. The committee has asked vendors to reduce handouts and use biodegradable containers that will then be collected and composted in Minden. TART will also be offering free transportation to the event from Incline, North Lake, and Truckee. Happy Earth Day!
