Lake Tahoe is gearing up for the largest cycling events in North America, the Amgen Tour of California. The Tour de France-style cycling road race will challenge over nineteen of the world's best professional cycling teams. Kicking off at 6500 feet, stage one is set to start on May 15th in South Lake Tahoe and circle the lake one and a half times before racing to the finish line at the Village at Northstar. Stage two is equally demanding, starting at the base of Squaw Valley Ski Area with a massive climb over Donner Summit to the finish line in Sacramento. With a total of eight stages ending up Southern California, this is an amazing opportunity to view the event multiple times in two days without significant travel times. These are three starts/finishes in our area that are not to be missed. Leading up to the race, there are plenty of events as the "10 Day Celebration Countdown" commences, including concerts, bike events, family-activities, and so much more. Also, with ski areas extending closing dates well into May, add skiing to the list of things to do while enjoying the Tour of California! We will be cheering the riders on as they race by our office.
