Run, bike and swim your heart out. Lake Tahoe is the perfect place for triathlons due to our excellent training ground for all three portions of the competition. Athletes, keep in mind, Lake Tahoe is at elevation 6250', so, if you are coming from sea level, you will want to give yourself time to acclimate. Also, Lake Tahoe has some colder temps, so you'll want to arrive early with some time to adjust, and, of course, enjoy our beautiful area. Here’s a look at upcoming events for triathletes:

Lake Tahoe Escape, September 16 - CANCELLED

This inaugural triathlon is modeled after the famous Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon in the Bay Area. In fact, the Tahoe Escape will offer a chance to qualify for the Alcatraz race later in the year. The race is expected to draw about 1,000 competitors, all who will plunge into the chilly waters of Tahoe, which race creators say mimic the waters off Alcatraz. The top three finishers in each age group will advance to the Alcatraz Escape. The swim starts at Common’s Beach in Tahoe City, an easily accessible lake front park that’s family friendly and full of fun features, such as a playground and sandy swimming beach.

Donner Lake Triathlon, July 21-22

This 37th annual triathlon is held at West End Beach on Donner Lake in Truckee. Blessed with warmer temps than Lake Tahoe, the swim is more moderate than swimming in Big Blue. For years the Donner Lake Triathlon has been and remains the favorite triathlon of many. It’s no wonder as the event features an epic setting, a beautiful and challenging course, and is located very near Truckee and North Lake Tahoe. 2018 also marks the 8th annual Donner Lake Kids Triathlon and the 6th annual Donner Lake Half Triathlon.
