Tahoe Life

Escape your triple digit heat at home and head to Lake Tahoe beaches for perfect beach day weather! Spend the day relaxing in the sun, swimming in Lake Tahoe, and digging your toes into the sandy shores as you stare out at the magical scenery. Of course, when you want to bring the whole family along, ease and accessibility are key, especially when considering young children or older family members, beach gear, floats, chairs, toys, blankets, umbrellas, coolers, tents and anything else you want to tow along for a full day of fun in the sun.

In general, Lake Tahoe’s sandy beaches are most populous on the east shore (with some that can be a little trickier to access) and on the lower west shore. The areas in between feature more pebbly shorelines. We want your stay to be perfect, so we have put together this handy list of our favorite sandy beaches with easy access, so you can save time and research and head straight to our favorite spots.

Kings Beach

Kings Beach

Located on the North Shore, this is a long white sand beach with a sandy shore and easy access to the water. This beach has watersport rentals that include kayaks, jetskis, stand up paddleboards, and even parasailing! There are nearby bathrooms, and the beach is across the street from a variety of shops and eateries. $10 per day to park.

Meeks Bay Beach

Plan to arrive early as parking often fills up before mid-morning. The beach is easily accessible. There are restrooms and picnic areas, as well as a flat, easy hiking trail along the Lake's shoreline. $10 per day to park.

Commons Beach

Located right in Tahoe City, this small sandy beach is very popular in summers because it’s just across the street from shops and dining options. Parking is free and there are adjacent bathrooms, a grassy lawn, and a large playground area that the kids love. Be advised that the free parking fills up quickly.

Sand Harbor

This iconic beach is easily accessible, with facilities like kayak rentals, bathrooms, a boat launch, and a restaurant. The East Shore scenery is famously represented in most photos you will find of Lake Tahoe. Take note, the popularity of this glorious locale means the parking lot often fills up shortly after the park opens on weekends. Arrive early, and your efforts will be repaid in a day of relaxation. The bike path from Incline Village to Sand Harbor will be open on June 28, 2019 so you can park in Incline Village and take the bike path to the beach! $10 per day to park.
