Tahoe City, CA

Eagle Rock

Conveniently located right off CA 89, Eagle Rock is a short and moderately steep hike that offers incredible panoramic views of Lake Tahoe’s west shore. Perfect for people who want a quick yet rewarding hike, Eagle Rock is a great introduction to the west shore’s laid-back and adventurous spirit. It’s also a great spot for photography, especially golden hour in the early mornings and later afternoons. 

Distance: 0.7 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Elevation Gain: Approximately 236 feet

Page Meadows

Featuring lush green meadows, summer wildflower blooms, and a network of family-friendly trails, Page meadows is a peaceful hike perfect for families, photographers, and people who want to get peace of mind. Located just outside Tahoe City, Page Meadows offers both a workout and restful break in the busy day. Photographers love this spot for golden hour photography, as the sun turns the greenery and surrounding peaks gold as it sets to the west. 

Distance: Approximately 3.3 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Elevation Gain: Approximately 220 feet

Truckee River Trail

Connecting Tahoe City to Olympic Valley, the Truckee River Trail is a favorite for all ages and abilities. This relatively flat, paved trail is perfect for hiking and biking, and offers incredible views and access to the Truckee River, where you can cool off on a hot summer day and watch the river rafters float by. Take a break at the River Ranch, where you can dine on hearty meals and watch the rafters come in on the sunny outdoor patio.

Kings Beach

Stateline Lookout

Perched above the border of California and Nevada, the popular Stateline Lookout offers incredible views of the Kings Beach and Brockway region. Hike up to an old fire lookout for panoramic lake views, educational signs of the region’s history, and places to soak in the sun and vibes.

Distance: Approximately 1.5 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy - Moderate

Elevation Gain: Approximately 300 feet

 

Incline Village, NV

East Shore Trail

One of the most popular trails on the north shore, the East Shore Trail is a paved hiking and biking path for all levels and abilities along the pristine shores of Lake Tahoe. This trail, a favorite for locals and visitors alike, connects Incline Village to Sand Harbor, and offers access to Hidden Beach and multiple access points to the lake. Make sure to take your time to explore the many points of interest here, take in the views, and swim in the lake!

Monkey Rock

Looking to find some of the best views on Nevada’s east shore? Look no further than Monkey Rock, a relatively short hike that packs a punch. The trailhead begins at the Tunnel Creek Cafe paid parking lot, and leads you through the towering pines and breaks with boulders to sit on and take in the views. The ultimate reward is the main viewpoint, featuring postcard-worthy views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierras. Make sure to look out for the monkey-shaped rock, located just to your right as you walk up to one of the most photographed views on the north shore.

Distance: Approximately 2.5 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Elevation Gain: Approximately 480 feet
