School’s out for the summer! You know what that means: More family time, more Tahoe time, and more adventures! With a packed events calendar and unlimited activities, summer is ideal for spending quality time with the family in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

Free Concerts and Festivals

Don’t break the bank on entertainment this vacation. There are plenty of free events all summer long!

Experience live, outdoor music with free weekly shows and world-class events and festivals. Our summer music line-up is packed, and you can catch free concerts five nights a week around North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Kings Beach and Tahoe City have concerts on the beach against the backdrop of Lake Tahoe. The Truckee Regional Park hosts free Music in The Park with a killer 2019 lineup every Wednesday. Pack your picnics, bring our lawn chairs, and enjoy the family-friendly setting, where kids can dance, play, and run free. Tuesdays are Bluesdays at the Village at Squaw Valley with many acclaimed blues musicians. While you're there, you can play the mini-golf holes throughout the village and enjoy the surrounding kids activities. The Northstar Village hosts live music on Saturdays and Sundays from 3pm-6pm around the roller skating rink.

You don’t want to miss Truckee Thursdays. Every Thursday, downtown Truckee closes to automobile traffic, and the main street becomes a festive walking street. Enjoy live music, food and brews, and a marketplace featuring local artisans and artists. Truckee Thursdays are a local favorite, and celebrates all things Tahoe | Truckee. A kid zone with a bounce house is a family favorite.

The Truckee Airshow is another classic family-friendly event. Head to the Tahoe Truckee Airport on July 13. You’ll watch acrobatic pilots spin through the air, performing stunts in their aircrafts that will delight kids and adults alike. Aircrafts are on display to check out, and rides in aircrafts are available for a fee.

Spend time on the Lake

A beach day (or two….or three!) at Lake Tahoe or Donner Lake is a must. Beaches dot the shorelines, or snag a spot on a public dock at Donner Lake.

Want to explore even more of the shoreline? Rent or charter a boat to access beaches that are unreachable by car or by foot. Spend the day on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe and drop anchor where you please.

Explore the lake by kayak or paddleboard for a more relaxed pace. We are happy to help with daily, multi-day, and weekly kayak and paddleboard rentals. The calm lake waters and stunning scenery make Tahoe a perfect place to enjoy a paddle.

Just can’t get enough of Lake Tahoe? Book a lakefront vacation rental, and make the most of your Lake Tahoe beach time.

Go Exploring

Discover your happy place on the trails of Lake Tahoe. Hiking and biking are great ways to spend family time exploring the area.

Rent bikes for a day and explore the paved Tahoe City Bike Path or the Truckee Legacy Trail. Cruise the paths and enjoy lake and forest views along the way. A brand new paved bike trail from Incline Village to Sand Harbor will open this summer!

Want to try mountain biking? With a vast trail network appealing to a variety of skill levels, Tahoe is perfect for a family trail ride. For beginners, the Tahoe Nordic Center trails offer miles of flowing terrain through the forest. If you are an adventure seeking family, you won't want to miss the iconic Flume Trail with panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. Rental bikes and a shuttle service are available, so that you can minimize logistics.

If you’re looking for a slower pace and dramatic vistas, head out on a family hike. There are heaps of hikes for all abilities and of all lengths around the basin. Our favorite short trail, great for kids, and still reaching panoramic lake views, is Eagle Rock.
