Lake Tahoe is home to some amazing smaller ski resorts with a low-key attitude and local atmosphere. While these mountains may not boast the famous steep chutes seen in ski films or 10 high-speed chairlifts, there is something wonderful about a nice, calm, day on the hill.

Diamond Peak- Located in Incline Village on the northeast corner of Lake Tahoe, Diamond Peak offers over 1,800 vertical feet of skiing with a wide variety of terrain. Soda Springs- Located just west of Truckee with easy access to I-80, Soda Springs is an excellent choice for beginners. With only 500 feet vertical rise, this mountain is far from intimidating. This mountain offers an undeniably relaxed atmosphere and relatively inexpensive ticket prices. Soda Springs is a great choice for a newer skier who just wants to spend a couple hours on the hill.

Homewood Mountain Resort - Homewood is a short drive down the gorgeous west shore from Tahoe City. This understated ski hill is perched right on edge of Lake Tahoe with awe-inspiring views. You will feel as if you are skiing right into the lake! This quiet mountain boasts over 1,600 of vertical rise and 67 trails. The best part? Homewood has a fantastically easy-going vibe with a distinct nostalgic feel. In the mood for a special dinner following a day on the hill? The River Grill in Tahoe City offers a diverse menu and beautiful setting on the Truckee River.
